Perhaps its a little late since this is already in progress, but I wanted to pass on these ideas anyway in case they might still be considered. I've been doing a deep dive of around 50+ different iPad MIDI sequencers to figure out what might work well in parallel with Loopy Pro.
So many people in general continue to want a straightforward implementation of the Alesis MMT-8 functionality, which at least to some degree is seen in the Retrokits RK-008 and Novation Circuit Tracks. However, these aren't available everywhere (I can't get Retrokits here in Mexico, for example), and also aren't in software form like an iPad app that can be used immediately with Loopy Pro.
There is an active discussion on the loopypro forum, and it seems like most of the ideas in the list would align already really well with Loopy Pro (I only don't know if Auto-Quantize and Overdub can be considered):
https://forum.loopypro.com/discussion/64385/does-a-midi-sequencer-for-ipad-and-loopy-pro-like-this-exist/p1
- Looped real-time MIDI sequencing
- MIDI Clock in or Host Sync
- Overdub recording for the currently selected track/channel
- Auto-quantize (ideally non-destructive, but that doesn't require stopping or post-record actions)
- At least 8 tracks, preferably 16 or more (1 per MIDI channel)
- Allows polyphonic recording for chords + bass or more complex sequences
- Has per track/channel mute and solo
- Can select whatever channel I want to record into while the sequencer continues to run without stopping using a single button press

Guys… we are gonna renew anyway, please. It’s been months now
Abberom
It would be great ! I would definitely leave AUM and Logic for Loopy Pro !

Cant wait for this function. Already see a guy on YT who used this in loopy pro. So my question is, when it will be available ? Thanks for this great piece of software

Where to find any news or updates on Loopy Pro and / or status of what’s currently in Beta? Where updates were released on a regular basis, development now seems to have completely stopped.
Flavelius
MaikR There are fragments of answers scattered through discord and this platform. There's no single progress-meter like feedback, but this roadmap (which is not bad at all, as it tells what is currently being worked on).
If you look down this thread, you can find responses that the developer is currently preparing a large update. This understandably took some time, but is also intended to be released in the very near future.

Flavelius thanks for your reply. The requested information is not on Discord, nor is it available on this platform. Yes, I can see those scattered snippets, but no dedicated information updates by the developer. There are a lot of questions, and I do understand it’s nearly impossible to respond to every single one of them. Therefore I was looking for some news or blogpost on what are known issues to be fix and/or new features coming up. This roadmap became more of a giant wishlist… with a lot of (big) things in development for quite some time now. And yes, I do understand a major update will take more time… completely fine if that’s what’s needed. But what about ‘a year of free updates policy’…? And no, for me it’s not about the money, but I do miss the more frequent, incremental updates.

So how long can the next few weeks be?
Jay Grisham
Hate to speculate, but I think it’s finished, but he is sitting on it. iPad has to be barely profitable for these developers. For instance, they barely get any reviews in the App Store, the majority of music production iOS apps rarely get updated these days, and the online communities are seriously small. I’m guessing he is wise to focus on MacOs, he can charge way more and it has a bigger user base. Strategically, he should wait until the last big group of users who paid for feature update’s year runs out. Then drop the midi looping feature, because that’s what everyone is waiting for. Personally I haven’t paid for any of the new updates, I’m waiting for midi looping. After it comes out, I’d like to support the business model and developer and pay for quality of life updates. But like NanoStudio 2 with out audio as promised, without sequencing Loopy feels half app’d :)

Jay Grisham well, in the end I think you’re right. He’s simply keeping it in Beta until the biggest group of users has to pay for the update. I guess that would be somewhere around the end of this year. For the big one I would probably understand it, because he has to earn a living. But there haven’t been any updates since May 2024… that shouldn’t be the case with these kind of models.

Nothing new here for quite a while! Change log says fixed crashes that never occured to me and the promised main features remain untouched. Wouldnt it be fair to announce a rough release date for transparency purposes dear loopy pro team?
Den
So it’s been 1 year and it’s not there yet, so what is the point of the free 12 months updates if you don’t deliver announced feature within that time. Good for you for sure, but not for your customers.

MaikR
Den well, look at the Change Log…

So true Den! Change log says fixed crashes that never occured to me and the promised main features remain untouched. Wouldnt it be fair to announce a rough release date for transparency purposes dear loopy pro team?

Felix Mross at least the Change Log itself got periodically updated… but now even that one had a big gap. Hopefully it will be closed soon.

Really exited for this function!
