Support for Equal-Power and Custom Crossfade Curves for Volume Parameters and Crossfader Widget
planned
Michael Tyson
Description:
Add a “Curve” selection option for volume parameter actions to switch between different fade curve types – especially to implement equal-power curves for smoother crossfades. Ideally, this would include a dedicated crossfader widget with assignable audio sources on each side and custom crossfade curves.
Problem:
Currently, volume fades in Loopy Pro often drop too fast and are hard to control precisely. Smooth transitions between sources are tricky, especially when using a single MIDI controller. Only the leftmost curve is configurable for x-faders, while more musical options like the middle curve (often used for transitions) are not available. A workaround using two separate faders is suboptimal.
Proposed Solution:
– Add selectable volume curve types: linear, equal-power, logarithmic, etc.
– Allow curves for both parameter actions (e.g., volume fades) and widgets
– Create a dedicated crossfader widget with:
– Assignable inputs (e.g., color channels or audio sources left/right)
– Crossfade-specific curves (e.g., DJ-style equal-power or scratch-friendly behavior)
– Optional: allow visual reference or preset selector like on DJ mixers (e.g., PX5 curve options)
– Let users apply different curves to channel faders and crossfaders separately
Benefits:
– Enables precise, musical volume transitions and fades
– Better suited for DJ/live use (e.g., drum blending, FX fades, source switching)
– Simplifies setups by avoiding workarounds with multiple faders
– Brings Loopy Pro closer to a professional live/DJ mixing environment
– Empowers users with custom workflows through curve selection

This was a suggestion that I had made on Discord awhile back. Nice to see it in the 'Planned' stage of things.
To add to this, or flesh out the idea a touch more, my original thought was for a crossfader widget where you could assign one or more audio sources to each side. This widget would have configurable crossfader curves.
Crossfaders, I believe, have different curves than an up fader (channel fader) would have. So, having a dedicated crossfader widget with crossfader specific curves was my original intent.
After jamming/performing more with Loopy Pro, general volume fader curves are also highly desirable. I've attached a picture from my Allen & Heath PX5 mixer to show you what those curves look like. Currently, you can only configure the left most 'xfader' curve in Loopy Pro. The middle curve is much more desirable for drum transitions while the right-most curve is what scratch DJs look for (not sure how one would scratch loops using a MIDI controller but if you're going to look at crossfader curves, you might as well code for all DJ use cases). Again, with the channel faders, my preference is for the middle curve where currently only the left most curve is available in Loopy Pro. I've found, through jamming/performing over the last few months, is that doing volume fades is a bit touchy to get right. The volume drops a bit too quickly to do nice smooth fade outs by hand.
I think you get the point but I just wanted to clarify as, realistically, having a crossfader widget with specific crossfader curves and separate configurable fader curves for all other volume objects would be an incredible boon!
Big thanks in advance! :D

This would be excellent - thanks a lot!
Currently it is not possibe to do smooth crossfades / transitions between recorded signal and Loopy with just one controller - the only workaround I found was to use two separate faders.
